Dutch Brazil (New Holland)

  • 1624: the Dutch seize Salvador de Bahia
  • 1625: the Portuguese-Spanish recover Salvador
  • 1630: the Dutch occupy Recife and Olinda
  • 1637: Governor General Johan Maurits arrives in Dutch Brazil, completes conquest of Pernambuco (Dutch Brazil) to Sao Luis do Maranhao to the North and Sergipe del Rey to the South
  • 1644: Johan Maurits departs from Dutch Brazil
  • 1654: the Portuguese regain control of Pernambuco
